Sun Damage, Redness and Rosacea

For Fairfax patients with sun damage, an IPL photofacial uses broad-spectrum light to fade age spots and freckles and to calm redness and broken capillaries. Sessions take 20 to 30 minutes. Most patients need three to five sessions spaced about four weeks apart, and treated spots may look darker or red for a few days before they fade. IPL works most safely on lighter skin tones, so your skin type is checked first.

For rosacea treatment, the 1064 long pulse laser on Clarity II targets redness and visible blood vessels. Prescribed topical or oral medication can also help control flare-ups.

Melasma and Dark Spots

Melasma shows up as brown or gray-brown patches, usually on the cheeks, forehead, nose and upper lip. Hormonal changes such as pregnancy, sun exposure and skin inflammation can all trigger it. Melasma treatment for patients near Fairfax may use one or more of these:

  • Hollywood Spectra 1064 Q-switch laser: breaks down excess pigment and is suited to all skin types.
  • VI Peel: a medium-depth peel that takes about 30 minutes. Peeling usually starts on day two or three and lasts three to five days.
  • Exosomes: regenerative skin therapies that may help reduce pigmentation.

Many patients notice improvement after three to four sessions. Daily sunscreen helps keep melasma from returning.

Exosomes, PRP and PRF

Exosomes are topical formulations of signaling molecules that support the skin’s or scalp’s own renewal. They can be used on their own, with minimal downtime, or applied after microneedling or laser resurfacing as part of a plan for the face, under-eyes or scalp. At-home options include Plated Skin Science serums such as Plated EYE and Plated HAIR.

PRP/PRFM starts with a small blood draw. The sample is processed to concentrate platelets and growth factors, which are injected into the face to support collagen or into the scalp to support thinning hair. Mild swelling, redness or tenderness usually settles within a few days. For hollows and dark circles, Dr. Manrique also offers PRF under the eyes.

Neurotoxins: Botox, Dysport and Daxxify

Neurotoxin injections for Fairfax patients relax the muscles behind forehead lines, frown lines and crow’s feet. Appointments take 15 to 30 minutes, results usually show in three to seven days, and most patients return every three to four months. We offer three brands. Botox is the most familiar. Dysport spreads easily across larger areas such as the forehead. Daxxify uses a peptide-based formula, and its results may last six months or more.

What Our Patients Are Saying

Fairfax FAQs

How far is NewEra from Fairfax?

Our office at 8100 Boone Blvd., Suite 330, in Vienna is about 18 to 21 minutes from Fairfax City Hall, according to Google Maps. The fastest route is usually I-66 East, with Chain Bridge Road as the alternative. We're just off the Dulles Access Road and open Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM.

Can IPL treat darker skin tones?

IPL works most safely on lighter skin tones, because deeper skin carries a higher risk of complications from the light. If IPL isn't right for your skin, there are other options for pigment and sun damage, such as the VI Peel or the Hollywood Spectra Q-switch laser. Your skin type is assessed at your consultation before treatment.

Is there downtime after exosome treatment?

On their own, exosome treatments have minimal downtime. Recovery depends on what they're paired with: if exosomes are applied after microneedling or laser resurfacing, you'll follow the recovery plan for that procedure. Changes build gradually, and the number of sessions depends on your goals, so your provider sets a plan with you.

How long does Daxxify last compared with Botox?

Botox and Dysport results typically last three to four months. Daxxify is designed to last longer, and its results may last six months or more, depending on the person, so some patients need fewer appointments each year. All three soften forehead lines, frown lines and crow's feet, and Dr. Manrique will help you choose.

Can rosacea be cured?

Rosacea can't be cured, but treatment can reduce its symptoms. At NewEra, that may mean the Clarity II 1064 long pulse laser for redness and visible blood vessels, exosomes to soothe inflammation and support repair, or prescribed medication. Tracking triggers such as sun, heat, stress, spicy food and alcohol also helps.
